When contract negotiations come around, something shifts.
Instead of building confidence, members start hearing warnings.
Talk about strikes.
Talk about risks.
Talk about what could go wrong.
And the pressure starts to fall on the members.
But here's the real question: Why are members being pressured instead of the company?
A strike is supposed to be leverage. It's supposed to send a message to the company that members are serious, united, and ready to stand together if necessary.
But when that conversation is used to create fear among members, it weakens that leverage before it's even used.
Because negotiations aren't won by hesitation. They're won by strength.
By leadership that:
- Builds confidence
- Communicates clearly
- Stands firm at the table
- And isn't afraid to push when it matters
Members should focus on securing the best contract, not be pressured into voting for one.
Because real representation doesn't create fear. It builds unity, confidence, and strength.
And that's what moves negotiations forward.
